Toyota Service Schedule for Kenya: Axio, Fielder and Probox Filters

Why these three cars
The Axio, Fielder and Probox are among the most common cars on Kenyan roads. A June 2026 Kenyan buyer's guide from Magari Deals names the Vitz, Passo, Axio, Fielder and Probox as the dominant used-car models under KES 1 million. They are popular because they are reliable and cheap to run, as long as the basic servicing is done. This guide sets out a practical service plan and the parts each service needs. It does not replace your service booklet. Use the intervals in your booklet and this guide together.
Know your car before you buy parts
The model name alone is not enough to order service parts. Find these three things: - Chassis code. On the logbook and on the plate in the engine bay. It looks like NZE141, NZE161 or NCP51 followed by a serial number. The letters before the numbers point to the engine family. For example, NZE codes indicate Toyota's NZ-family petrol engines. - Engine code. Such as 1NZ-FE or 2NZ-FE, printed on the engine and often on the logbook. - Gearbox type. Manual, conventional automatic or CVT. This decides which transmission fluid you need. Many Axio, Fielder and Probox models share engines and therefore share many service parts. That helps, but always match by chassis or engine code. Our guide explains how: https://partsultan.com/blog/find-right-car-part-chassis-code-oem-number
Normal or severe schedule?
Toyota service booklets usually give a normal schedule and a schedule for special or severe operating conditions. Those conditions typically include driving on rough, muddy or dusty roads, repeated short trips, long periods of idling, and carrying heavy loads. Most Kenyan use fits at least one of these. A Probox doing deliveries, a Fielder used as a taxi, or an Axio that sits in Nairobi traffic every morning should usually follow the severe schedule. If in doubt, ask your mechanic to look at the booklet with you.
What to change at every service
At every oil service, plan on: - Engine oil, of the grade and quantity in your booklet. - Oil filter. Always, every oil change. - Sump plug washer. A small item, but a reused one can weep oil. - Air filter inspection. Replace it if it is dirty. On dusty routes, that may be every service. - Cabin filter inspection, if it has not been changed in a while. - Check the levels of coolant, brake fluid and, where the car has a dipstick, transmission fluid. - Check the wiper blades, bulbs and tyre pressures.
What to change less often
These items follow the longer intervals in your booklet, adjusted for how you drive: - Air filter: replace at the booklet interval, or sooner when inspection shows it is dirty. - Cabin filter: at least once a year in dusty or traffic-heavy use, or when the AC airflow weakens or smells musty. - Fuel filter: on many petrol Toyotas of this type the filter is inside the tank with the pump and is a long-interval item. Check your booklet. - Spark plugs: at the booklet interval. Long-life plugs last much longer than standard ones, so confirm which type your car has. - Brake fluid: brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. Change it at the booklet interval. - Coolant: at the booklet interval, using the correct type. Do not top up with plain water. - Transmission fluid: CVT and automatic gearboxes need the correct fluid. Do not put ordinary ATF in a CVT.

Frequently asked questions
Which engine oil does my Axio or Fielder need? Use the grade in your service booklet or on the oil filler cap. We stock 5W-30 and will tell you if a grade we carry matches your booklet. Do the Axio and Fielder use the same filters? Often, when they share an engine. Do not assume it. Match by chassis code. My Probox is used for business. Which schedule should I follow? Heavy loads and many short trips usually count as severe use. Follow the severe schedule in your booklet.
