A bumper job costs more than the bumper

When someone asks us for a bumper price, we always add one thing: the bumper is only part of the cost. A typical bumper replacement in Kenya has four parts to the bill. - The bumper itself. - Clips, brackets and sometimes a reinforcement bar that broke in the knock. - Paint, if the bumper does not match your car's colour. - Labour to fit it, plus any repair to fog lamps, sensors or grilles. Why bumpers for the same car differ in price

Two Axio bumpers can be very different parts. Prices vary because of: - Generation and facelift. The NZE141 and NZE161 Axio, or a pre-facelift and facelift Fielder, take different bumpers. - Specification. Bumpers with fog lamp holes, parking sensor holes, or an integrated spoiler cost more. - Condition. Ex-Japan bumpers may carry scuffs, small scratches or a repaired tab. - Colour. A bumper that already matches your colour saves you a paint job. Ex-Japan prices also move with the shilling and shipping costs. Business Daily reported in 2022 that a 2005 Premio front bumper had risen to Sh45,000 at Nairobi dealers, up 28%. Prices change, so confirm the day's price before you pay.

Fitment checks before you buy

- Front or rear. It sounds obvious, but send a photo. - Year of manufacture, not year of registration in Kenya. A car made in 2014 and registered here in 2017 needs a 2014 bumper. - Facelift. Look at the headlight and grille shape. If those changed, the bumper probably did too. - Fog lamp and sensor holes. If your car has fog lamps or parking sensors, the bumper needs matching holes. - Mounting points. Check that the tabs along the top and the side brackets are intact in the photos. - Number plate area. Some bumpers have a recessed plate area, others a flat face with a separate bracket. Fitting and paint: what panel beaters need

Ex-Japan bumpers come in whatever colour they left Japan in. If the colour does not match, your panel beater will prepare and paint it. Is an ex-Japan bumper as good as a new one? It is the original part, so it fits like the original. It is used, so check the condition in the photos. For most cars it is the best-value option. Can a cracked bumper be repaired instead? Small cracks and broken tabs can often be plastic-welded by a panel beater. Large tears, or damage to the mounting points, usually mean replacement. Do you deliver bumpers outside Nairobi? Yes, by courier. Bumpers are bulky, so we confirm the courier cost with you before you pay.
