Air Filter and Cabin Filter Price in Kenya: Match by Part Number
Partsultan parts desk · 2026-10-24
Two filters people mix up
Both filters clean air, but they protect different things. - The air filter (air cleaner) sits in a box in the engine bay and cleans the air going into the engine. Dust that gets past it wears the engine from the inside. - The cabin filter (AC filter or pollen filter) cleans the air coming through your dashboard vents. On many cars it sits behind the glove box. They are different shapes and different part numbers, so you cannot swap one for the other. When to change each one is covered in our filter guide: https://partsultan.com/blog/when-to-change-car-filters-kenya. This guide is about buying the right one at the right price.
Read the number, not the box picture
The surest way to buy the right filter is the part number printed on the old one or on its box. Air filters for different engines can look almost identical but differ by a few millimetres, and a filter that does not seal lets dust straight past. Carmakers number their filters in a pattern. Some common ones on our shelf: - Toyota air filters start 17801-, for example 17801-21030 or 17801-30070. - Toyota cabin filters start 87139-, for example 87139-06050. - Nissan air filters start 16546-, for example 16546-ED500. - Suzuki air filters often start 13780-, for example 13780-53M30. - Mitsubishi and Fuso numbers often start ME or MR, for example ME017242. - Isuzu numbers are long and numeric, for example 8-98140265-0. Filter brands use their own codes, such as FLA 5152, UFA 605 or K2342, and print the original number they replace as a "cross reference". For example, our FLA 5152 air filter carries the cross reference 17801-21050. Our guide to OEM numbers explains cross references in more detail: https://partsultan.com/blog/find-right-car-part-chassis-code-oem-number No number on the old filter? Send us your chassis number and engine code and we will look it up.

Brand-name, aftermarket or "genuine"?
Many filters on our shelf are aftermarket filters made to the original number, not filters in the carmaker's own box. A good aftermarket filter from a known maker does the job well and costs less. Ask us which you are buying, and we will tell you plainly. The real risk is the counterfeit: a cheap filter in a copied carmaker box. The paper is thin, the seal is poor, and the fit is loose. Our guide to spotting fake filters shows what to look for: https://partsultan.com/blog/how-to-spot-fake-oil-filter-kenya. The same checks apply to air filters. Signs it is time for a new one
Air filter: - Hold it up to a light. If almost no light comes through, or the pleats are caked with dust, replace it. - Weak pick-up on hills and higher fuel use can point to a blocked filter. - Any tear in the paper or crack in the rubber rim means it must go. Cabin filter: - Weak airflow from the vents even on full fan. - A musty smell when the AC comes on. - Leaves, dust or insects visible on the filter face.
Fitting tips
- Clean the air box with a damp cloth before you fit the new filter. Do not knock dust into the intake side. - Check the rubber rim seats evenly all round, and that every clip or screw on the air box lid is closed. A lid left on one clip lets unfiltered air in. - Look at the intake hose for cracks while the box is open. A split hose bypasses the filter completely. - Do not oil or wash a paper filter, and do not blow it with high-pressure air. - Cabin filters have an airflow arrow. Fit it pointing the way the manual or the old filter shows. - Change the air filter with the oil and filter at the same service. Frequently asked questions
What is the air filter price in Kenya? In our stock, most air filters cost KES 170 to KES 450 as of October 2026. A few larger elements cost more, up to KES 2,700. Can I use an air filter with a slightly different number? Only if it is a listed cross reference or a confirmed supersession. A filter that "nearly fits" can let dust past the seal.
